What We Believe
Black churches have historically been out front in the Civil Right Experience.

At Metropolitan United Methodist Church, our faith is rooted in the teachings of Jesus Christ, the truth of Scripture, and the transforming power of God’s love. We believe that faith should shape not only what we profess but also how we live, love, serve, and care for others.

Our beliefs guide our worship, strengthen our fellowship, and inspire our commitment to sharing the Gospel and making a positive difference in our community and beyond.

We Believe in God.

We believe in one God, eternally revealed as the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. God is the source of all life, the foundation of our faith, and the perfect example of love, grace, and mercy.

We Believe in Jesus Christ.

We believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God and the Savior of the world. Through His life, death, and resurrection, we receive forgiveness, reconciliation with God, and the promise of eternal life. We seek to follow His teachings and reflect His love in everything we do.

We Believe in the Bible.

We believe the Holy Bible is the inspired foundation of our Christian faith and a guide for living according to God's will. Through Scripture, we grow in wisdom, deepen our relationship with God, and learn to live with faith, integrity, compassion, and purpose.

We Believe in Salvation and Grace

We believe that God's grace is freely offered to all people through Jesus Christ. We are saved by God's grace through faith, not by our own efforts, and we are called to respond to that grace through lives of gratitude, obedience, and love.

We Believe in the Power of the Holy Spirit.

We believe the Holy Spirit works within us to strengthen our faith, guide our decisions, transform our hearts, and empower us to serve God and others. Through the Spirit, we are equipped to grow spiritually and live as faithful witnesses of Jesus Christ.

We Believe in Love and Community

We believe that every person is created in the image of God and deserves to be treated with dignity, compassion, and respect. We are called to love our neighbors, welcome people from all backgrounds, support one another, and build a community where everyone can experience God's love.

We Believe in Service and Justice

We believe that faith must be demonstrated through action. Following the example of Jesus Christ, we are committed to serving those in need, standing for justice, caring for the vulnerable, and working toward a more loving, peaceful, and equitable community.

We Believe in the Mission of the Church

We believe the Church is called to make disciples of Jesus Christ, share the Good News of salvation, nurture spiritual growth, and serve the world. At Metropolitan United Methodist Church, we strive to impact and renew Montgomery and beyond through the transforming message of Jesus Christ in both our words and actions.

Our Faith in Action

Our beliefs are more than words on a page. They are the foundation of our worship, the motivation behind our service, and the guiding principles of our daily lives. Together, we seek to grow in faith, love unconditionally, serve selflessly, and share the hope of Jesus Christ with the world.
